Mayukuyuku Camp

safari tours in Kafue

Introduction

Mayukuyuku (meaning water hitting rocks) is a tented camp situated between the lightly wooded tree line and the Kafue riverbank, downstream of a number of small rapids. Spectacular views in every direction, this offers good wildlife sightings when in the camp. This small and intimate camp has a main communal area housing an open sided dining room, with a small lounge and bar for an alfresco dining experience. Hot tea or coffee is delivered to your tent at your required wake-up time for you to enjoy on your verandah.

Accommodation

The camp has just 4 luxury en-suite permanent tents under thatched roofs with their own verandahs and hammocks. Each one overlooks the river.

For budget visitors the camp has a lovely shady campsite on the opposite side of a small, dry riverbed with river or bush view from each pitch. There are 6 pitches at present with nearby shared bathrooms open to the stars. Firewood is supplied free of charge and there is a staff member to assist you. The camp also offers, for those without tents, lightweight tents for hire on request. The campsite can take approximately 25 guests and meals can be booked at the main camp.

Dining

In the evenings your three course meal is served in a cosy atmosphere with candles and lanterns in the open sided dining room. Fresh produce prepared and served by our chefs with a big emphasis on fresh fruit and vegetables, and Zambian sourced meat and fish. Zambian products are used whenever possible and cater for all dietary requirements.

All-inclusive packages means everything is taken care of for you including your transfers and it removes the need to carry very much money apart from a little for drinks, gifts and any tips you may wish to leave.

Full board only option leaves you to organise your activities as you please – in advance or once in the camp.

Activities

Early morning and sundowner game drives in open vehicles. The sundowner drive turns into a night drive that reveals the nocturnal wildlife.

Safari Walking at a leisurely pace through the bush, with a guide and armed scout affords the opportunity to get closer to nature, concentrating on fauna, flora and spoor.

Boat trips offer a very relaxing experience in the beautiful surroundings of the blue green Kafue River. You can expect to view game coming to the river to drink, hippos and crocodiles, plenty of bird watching and if you have your own fishing gear, you can fish on the river’s edge or take the boat with a guide down the Kafue, or into the channels fishing.
