African Safari Holidays in South Luangwa
Thornicroft Lodge is an intimate camp on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the South Luangwa National Park, a mere five minute drive from the main gate. An open plan thatched area houses the dining area, lounge and bar, and the Zambia shaped swimming pool is close by. Wildlife frequently roam through the camp, and viewing from the comfort of riverbank chairs the riverside is a hive of animal activity. Evenings are spent around the sheltered fire pit sharing stories of wildlife encounters and enjoying the majestic sunsets.
9 Simple but elegant en-suite chalets of rustic design are spread out along the river bank. Each is equipped with a double or twin beds, mosquito netting, tea & coffee making provisions and hanging space. There are power sockets and fans for your comfort and each has a private veranda.
Additionally a campsite is available for wishing to ‘Go Safari’. 5 x two man dome tents overlook the lagoon. Each has twin beds, electric lights and a small seating area to the front. A shared washing block with showers, toilets, wash basins and plenty of hot water are provided also.
The dining area caters for all dietary and special requirements and the chefs provide a variety of traditional and international cuisines. Meals are served in the open plan restaurant at decorated tables, waiters provide drink service away from the bar. Water can be drunk from the tap due to the Lodge’s own borehole
A Walking Safari can be arranged as a stand-alone activity or in conjunction with the morning 4x4 game drive. A visit to the nearby Tribal Textile workshop or experience a tour of the local village, Mfuwe, your guide will not only be knowledgeable and experienced but will be a resident!
For the artistic Thornicroft Lodge has dedicated Art Safari’s several times a year – a must do for budding artists and photographers. Art Safaris provide the opportunity to study elephants and other animals at leisure while developing your skills.
